When growing plants under artificial light, it is desirable to be able to adjust the height of the lighting. Please do not use string to suspend lighting because this may be subject to abrasion and melting. Instead, use hookplates and hanging chain.

Hookplates should be installed in a growroom before growing commerces. Ensure that you are able to drill into a sturdy part of the ceiling. If not, you will have make some adaptions. For example, we used a beam of wood to secure a linear light mover in a demo system in our shop. Wood can also be used where the ceiling is uneven or more suspension points are required in a span.

Please note that when hanging heavy objects, such as lights, the physical reliability of the system is critically dependant on all components. (Or "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link", but of more concern is the fixings above the chain.) In general, hookplates are secured to beams within the ceiling. Use rawplugs to ensure the fitting will not become loose. If you have not use rawplugs before, this is not the time to begin. We strongly recommend that anyone, regardless of experience, hires a professional carpenter to install hydroponic lighting. Failure to install lighting properly may result in injuries to people, damage to plants, damage to equipment including but not limited to electrical fires. Smashed lamps may poison your plants. We know of people who have lost their homes due to electrical fires.

Bodge the rest of your hydro system, if you want, but suspending the lighting has to be done safely.
