Unlike High Pressure Sodium [HPS] and Metal Halide [MH] lamps, the mercury blend lights do not require ballasts. Therefore mercury blend lamps are an extremely cheap way to get started in hydroponics. Unfortunately, mercury blend lamps become unstable and volatile over time. Prolonged use of the same bulb may result in lamp failure resulting in the possible release of toxic mercury vapour in the proximity of growroom plants. (WEEE)
