This is the popular high pressure sodium lamp, ballast (with timer) and high quality reflector combo. (Within hydroponics, high pressure sodium is very commonly refered to as HPS.) HPS provides good all-round performance and is used by beginners and experts alike. This combo is available with 250W, 400W, 600W and 1000W lamps, complete with matched ballasts and reflectors. Whenever possible, we provide lighing systems which are interoperable with Metal Halide [MH] lamps. Some people use MH lamps to simulate autumn (harvest time), although a reduced lighing period is usually sufficient for most plants. (WEEE)

Note that plant yield is proportional to light received and therefore we recommend 1000W lights except in extreme cases. Also note that ballasts with combined timers are available at additional cost, although we recommend the use of separate timer relays. Domestic timers are typically not suitable for switching 1000W loads and will fail. Products sold may vary, but will always match or exceed the quality of products shown.
