With the onset of cheap, nasty, home made, dangerous lights that have dogged the hydroponics market, we thought it best to say a few words. There are lights and there are proper horticultural, professional grade lights on today's market. The former a quite frankly death traps; they are constructed from the cheapest, obsolete, end of line components, that are usually mismatched and wrongly configured. To think that these poorly built, badly wired, misconfigured, lights are gracing people's damp, humid and sometimes wet, grow rooms is a scary thought, especially if it's in the home. And all in the name of a bargain, not only do you risk your own life with these tacky lights but every body that lives with you. So don't do it! Look before you leap! Our lights all carry CE certifications and have BS approved components. They are made by horticultural lighting companies that have built lights for the hydroponics trade for over a decade. They are professional grade no hassle lighting units that have all been personally tested, and demonstrated by ourselves. They all carry a two year parts and labour manufacturer's guarantee (except for the bulb). The 400W and 1000W are both high pressure sodium and metal halide compliant, so the one light can run either lamp. Lighting is possibly the most important decision for indoor horticulture, cheap normally represents a health risk. For the sake of saving £50 is it worth it? You have been warned!
Typically the more light you give the plant, the better the yield will be. Double the lux, double the yield. Approximate coverage with 400W is 1m2: 5-10 plants, 600W is 1.5m2: 7-14 plants and 1000W is 2m2: 15-20 plants.
Industry standard world wide for horticulture. High intensity discharge sold with Plus, Agro or Planta lamps which have enhanced blue spectrum for vegetative growth and red spectrum for flowering growth. Reliable and efficient to run. The approximate cost for a 400W HPS on a daily 18 hour cycle is £35 - £40 per quarter. All lights are CE certified and guaranteed. Made by leading horticultural lighting companies from Norway, Holland, England, and USA. All with thorough testing and approval worldwide. These lights are far from home made, unlike other cheap lights on the market. Buying lights without the CE Certification is like buying a car without an MOT. Finally, please note that the black and white ballasts depicted are of equivalent quality and are supplied across the range of lighting combos. "Standard", "quality" and "air cooled" refer only to the differences in the reflectors supplied.
Used world wide for horticulture. High intensity discharge more suited for vegetative growth due to strong blue spectrum reliable and safe, however the lamp must be discarded after one year's use as the lamp can become volatile.
This steadfast light has been available for a decade and in its most recent incarnation, is as effective as any modern design. This light is used estensively throughtout Holland. It is known affectionately as "The Producer" and has a reputation for consistant and abundant yields. This light is ideal for indoor use and greenhouse use. The unit is designed specifically to be suspended via two chains at either end of the main section. This counterweights the sturdy pentagonal reflector. The unit is approximately 66cm long and the widest section of the reflector is approximately 42cm.
Exclusively, Esoteric Hydroponics has obtained a large quantity of ex-demonstration lights. These lights are proven and subject to the usual high standard of warranty. Unfortunately, these discounted units are only available until stocks are exhausted. This special offer cannot be repeated, so hurry!
The SGR200 is an extremely popular product, combining the functions of ballast and reflector in one easy to mount unit. Simply connect to the mains via a timer relay for quick and easy plant growing. Although the SGR200 is not waterproof, it is especially suitable for use in greenhouses, or indoor growrooms where space is limited. The SGR200 units can be daisy chained via the integrated junction (shown in picture below cable), although in the interested of safety, this practice is discouraged by Esoteric Hydroponics. Please wire lighting separately whenever possible. The SGR200 is approximately 75cm long.
Phosphorous coated to promote blue and red spectrum so you can veg and bloom, more blue light than red, a cheap way to get started. However bulb wants replacing every nine months as lamp can become volitile. Costs more to run and maintain compared to with HPS, MH or fluorescents.
Emit less light than high intensity discharge although can be used throughout plant cycle but due to brightness will produce small yields. Popular for seedlings and cuttings, an excellent way to establish young plants.
Linear: A very popular way to grow more with less setup costs and a lot less running costs. Basically, the light is hung on a long rail. How long is up to you. The light is moved from one end to the other using a silent low wattage motor. When the light gets to one end it stops for approximately 1 minute before making its return journey. In effect it does the job of two or three lights just using the one. This light rail will reduce running costs by half to two thirds depending on the setup. The SmartDrive 3.5 is an upgrade from the SmartDrive 3 and now features adjustable time delay at no extra cost. The SmartDrive 3.5 is a US design. The Jupiter 2 is an Australian gadget.
Circular: USA designed and built. Similar principle but harnessing two lights; normally 1 High Pressure Sodium and 1 Metal Halide to give perfect blue and red spectrum mimicking the sun for unbeatable results. Moves round in a circle, again mimicking the sun's natural rotation of the Earth. There is also a 3 light version with a suggested use of 1 Metal Halide and 2 High Pressure Sodiums.
Plants love light movers as it promotes good all round growth, the plants actually follow the light making plant stronger thicker and better yielders.
Ballasts contain step-up transformers and ignition circuitry. Ballasts are also available with combined timers. These timers use relays and are rated for high load, unlike cheap, external timers. With our range of ballasts, our range of High Pressure Sodium [HPS] and Metal Halide [MH] lamps can be interchanged, although metal halide lamps are not typically available at 400W.
All ballasts listed here are suitable for all use with all High Pressure Sodium [HPS] and Metal Halide [MH] lights shown here. For questions regarding ballasts and cabling, please contact Esoteric Hydroponics. Ballasts are tested before sale.
If there is a light, lamp or reflector not listed that you require, we can obtain it, so please call.
